The Charles Krahenbuhl Memorial Community Building Award for Communication and the Arts
Charles Krahenbuhl was born in 1935 in the cabin of his grandfather, a hard-rock miner, in the mountains near California’s Yosemite valley. He was active in music and theatre from an early age. In his senior year of high school, Charles won a series of statewide public speaking competitions that provided him a University scholarship. Higher education further enabled his study for the Methodist ministry at Drew Theological Seminary in New Jersey. Rev. Krahenbuhl served as a pastor for ten years before becoming a public school teacher, during which he launched a four-decade practice as a marriage and family therapist. He remained active in music and community theatre for the remainder of his professional life. This award honors Rev. Krahenbuhl’s deep love of higher education in recognizing graduating students in Design, Arts, and Communication who carry on his commitment to community building through communication and the performing arts.
